Satopanth is Gangotri Group’s Second Tallest Mountain

Satopanth stands tall at a height of 7075 meters and it is Gangotri group’s second tallest mountain which lies in remote region of Uttarakhand. In the local language meaning of Satopanth is “True Path.”

Satopanth stands tall at an altitude of 7075 meters and world’s highest peak Mt. Everest is at a height of 8,848 meters. Traverse this peak of Gangotri group and get experience and knowledge of high altitude.

The Challenging Trail and Fantastic Sights

On the way are glaciers with crevasses, before summit adventure is increased by sharp ridges and snow slopes. Get your equipment ready for the difficult climbs and tough sections because they are technically difficult. This place gives magnificent views of Gangotri glacier, Mt Thalay Sagar, Mt Shivling and Bhgairathi (II) (III).

Campsites 

Vasuki Tal is the base camp of this trek, before it you will camp on the wide ground of Nandanvan. Before summit there will be three camps. Camping for three weeks will give you a lifetime experience and memories.

ATM Point and Mobile Connectivity

ATM POINT Uttarkashi is the last ATM point.

Mobile Connectivity- BSNL signals are available at Gangotri, ahead the connectivity is not good. There will be no networks ahead so finish all your important work and calls before starting of the trek.

Itinerary

Day 01- Dehradun to Gangotri (3092 m) (245 km) (10/12 hours)

Meet us at Dehradun Railway Station and then drive towards Uttarkashi to reach Gangotri. The journey will be along the banks of River Ganga. On the way visit Gangnani; hot spring. Pass through lush green forests and get the views of Great Himalayas and Harsil.

Reach Gangotri, which is famous for a holy pilgrimage. Go to a hotel rest there for some time and then explore this place on your own. Ganga Aarti is very famous here don’t miss to attend that.

Day 02- Acclimatization Day

Today go to nearby places like Pandeva’s cave. Get yourself prepared for the upcoming days. After your hike and exploring places come back to the hotel.

Day 03- Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3769 m) (13 km) (5/6 hours)

Start the trek from market and pass through forests section and boulder zone to reach Chirbasa. From here you can have glance of Gomukh glacier and Bhagirathi group of peaks. Now, head towards Bhojbasa the path is wide the trail will take you through some landslide prone areas.

En route relish the views of Mt. Shivling and Bhagirathi peaks. As you go higher the trail becomes barren and rocky. Bhojbasa campsite is barren but offers clear and spectacular views. Enjoy the scenic views then dinner and overnight stay is in tents.

Day 04- Bhojbasa to Nandanvan (Base camp) (4337 m) via Gomukh (3890 m)

First reach Tapovan, it is famous for its wide grasslands, it is 2 hours away from Gomukh. Ascending is steep but when you reach there the views are striking.Climb the first ridge of Tapovan and cross Akash Ganga before Gangotri Glacier.

Find a route to descent and make sure it is safe. Glacier has thick ice, boulders and broken rocks, the ice remains slippery so trekking on it becomes difficult.

After the descent start the 100 metre climb to Nandanvan through landslide prone region. Reach the base of Bhagirathi massif and the Nandanvan meadow, you would be surprised by the clear views of Mt. Meru, Kedar Dome and Mt. Shivling. The meadow is windy, setup your tents and retire for the night.

Day 05- Acclimatization Day

Go on a hike today, return before lunch and rest for the day.

Day 06- Nandanvan to Base Camp (Vasuki Tal) (4898 m)

The trail to Vasuki Tal from Nandanvan is rocky and ascent is going to be a long one. It is very cold here in winters and around this heavenly Lake Brahma Kamal grows in abundance.

It is said that Lord Vishnu took bath in this Lake and it is named “Vasuki Tal” because it resembles snake Vasuki of Lord Shiva which made it sacred, the sight of Chaturangi glacier is beguiling.

This Lake is in an idyllic setting as the views are heart-warming, it freezes in winters. Set your camp near this place and comfortably sleep in tents.

Day 07- Acclimatization Day

Get yourself prepared for upcoming days, go on a short hike and adapt the changes. Overnight stay at Base camp (Vasuki Tal).

Day 08- Base Camp (Vasuki Tal) to Advance Base Camp (ABC) (5130 m)

Start the trek towards ABC, cross a narrow ridge with Chaturangi glacier on left and Vasuki Parbat on right. Reach the edge of this ridge and have a glimpse of Mt. Satopanth.

Trek through the moraine region and reach ABC which lies at an altitude of 5130 meters.

Day 09- Acclimatization Day

Let your body adapt the changes, go on a hike to acclimatize. Overnight stay at ABC.

Day 10- Load Ferry from ABC to Camp 1 and return

Load Ferry today from ABC to Camp 1, fix the ropes for technical climb ahead and return to ABC.

Day 11- Advance Base Camp (ABC) to Camp 1 (5800 m)

From today the difficult climb starts, cross a glacier a rock bend very carefully. Use the ropes for ascending and reach Camp 1 which is at a height of 5800 meters.

Day 12- Load Ferry from Camp 1 to Camp 2 and return

Load Ferry from Camp 1 to Camp 2, fix ropes for the climb and return to Camp 1.

Day 13- Camp 1 to Camp 2 (6200 m)

Post breakfast start the steep climb and reach the knife ridge. With the help of fixed ropes cross this part and crossing it will take time. Ahead is a sharp part of the mountain, it is icy and Camp 2 is on a hanging glacier.

Day 14- Camp 2 to Satopanth peak (7075 m) and return to camp 2

The climb is technically difficult, attempt summit climb and return to camp 2.

Day 15- Reserve Day for summit climb

Extra Day for Summit Climb

Day 16- Descent from Camp 2 to Camp 1

Post breakfast return from Camp 2 to Camp 1

Day 17- Camp 1 to Base Camp via ABC

Start the descent from Camp 1, take a break at Advance Base Camp trek further and reach Vasuki Tal (Base Camp).

Day 18- Vasuki Tal (Base Camp) to Nandanvan

From Vasuki Tal get back to Nandanvan by descending. Setup your camps at this wide grassland and after having salubrious food retire for the night.

Day 19- Nandanvan to Chirbasa

Descent from Nandanvan to Chirbasa, the trek is long and you reach there by passing through Bhojbasa and Gomukh. Setup your camps along a river and comfortably sleep in tents.

Day 20- Chirbasa to Gangotri and drive to Uttarkashi

Start the trek from Chirbasa to Gangotri and your expedition ends at this point. From there drive is towards Uttarkashi. Reach there and arrangements will be made in a hotel.

Day 21- Uttarkashi to Dehradun

Post breakfast at the hotel leave for Dehradun.
