Hampta Pass Trek – Trek to place with vibrant variety and variability

Hampta pass trekking can be done in any season, but the best time to go for the trek is in the month of June to September. Hampta Pass trekking gives an amazing experience of exploring your life with special hues of nature. One gets an incredible view of rock faces, frosty valleys, thick pine forest, open meadows, adrenaline pumping waterway and pleasant as well as adventurous crossing areas.

Hampta pass trek connects two beautiful valley named; Kullu and Lahaul were one gets various Landscapes. Colorful Himalayan birds, species and flowers attract the viewers by their beauty. The scenic landscape, frequent changes in weather and atmosphere delights the trekkers and gives a good option of clicking pictures. Climbing on the snow stretch and finding peace with nature with the surroundings of Himalaya is vast. Hampta Pass is an unusual, special pass.

Hampta Pass starts from beautiful hill station Manali

At an altitude of Manali trekkers cross from Jobra to Chika. Crossing through small pine forests, huge rock and rich vegetations are remarkable. Traveling just for four hours and you reach the second destination of your trek – Chika. Here you enjoy the refreshing river, waterfalls and grassy land. Here the camps are tented and trekkers hold at night and relax.

The second day of the trek is Balu ka Gera. At Balu Ka Gera you meet with huge rocks at Nani Lake, enjoy the icy cold water, mountain and click photographs to make your trip memorable. The next destination is Shea Goru, it is an 8 hrs journey. Colorful riverside tiny flowers and patches of snow divert the attention of trekkers.

Hampta Pass Deo Tibba Peak

The view is clearly visible. Hampta Pass has got two ridges. The zig-zag route, U-turn, downhill and snowfall with an uncertain rainfall makes the trekking moment more enjoyable. It is an easy trek with a moderate level of walking area. Then here comes the second last destination from Siagoru to Chatru; it is a downhill trek of 5 hours. Here you get rivers and beautiful valleys in the heart of mountain ranges.

The trekking is quite difficult in this area because of slippery soils and rocky edge path. Chandra River and glacier flow near it make a remarkable statement in the trek. The final destination to the trek is Chatru to Chandratal. Chatru is at a distance of 70 Kms far from Chandartal. You can drive to Chandratal and visit the Moon Lake; it is the main point to visit in Chandartal and step back to Manali after enjoying your time at utmost. You can also enjoy the local sightseeing of Manali.

The drive to Manali to Jebra road head

From where the Hampta pass trek starts) is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Himachal Manali, Jebara, Cheeka, Balu ka Gera, Shea Goru, Chatru, Chandartal, Rohtang pass, Manali along the Chandra River Hampta pass trek is one the easiest treks in the Himalayas to enjoy thick snow cover.

Getting to the base of Manali, Himachal Pradesh

Take an overnight bus from Delhi or Chandigarh. You will reach Manali early the next morning (travel time from Delhi is 12-14 hours/ Chandigarh is 8-10 hours). Tickets can be booked online on www.redbus.in or www.hrtc.gov.in. HRTC or HPTDC buses are usually on schedule. Meet to our office member at Manali mall road and drive to Jebra road head start point of Hampta Pass & Chandartal.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day (Base camp – Manali and have some breakfast – Same Day Drive to Jebra Road Head by taxi (28.km) Same Day trek to Cheeka Camp site – over night stay in camp

Arrive at Manali in the morning (on your own) .Have somebreakfast, and Meet to our office member and we will pick up trekkers from Manali bas stand rambag circle (around 10 am) We will drive down to Jobra by taxi/jeep. Jobra is an hour’s drive away from Manali. The trek begins from Jobra to Cheeka around 1.30 pm. The trail to Cheeka passes through superb Pine and Maple forests and enters a lush green meadow strewn with small rocks. The Rani Nala snakes its way through the meadow. The campsite for the day – Cheeka is at the end of this meadow. It takes about 2 hours to get to Cheeka. The temperature in Cheeka at night can drop below 10 degrees.Camp overnight at Cheeka

Day 02- After Breakfast Start Trek Cheeka to Balu Ka Gera with pack lunch – (07km) (4/5hras) Night stay in Camp

Start trekking after breakfast. It is a 4 hour easy ascent to Balu Ka Gera. The trail stays along the banks of the river for most part of the day. The initial climb involves a lot of boulder hopping. Take off your shoes and hop across the Rani Nala if you want to feel the icy cold water. Pitch your tents and camp at Balu Ka Gera, 11,010 feet above sea level.

After having a good tight sleep, have the healthiest breakfast and get ready to continue your trek. For today, your destination will be Bhalu ka Ghera. This place is famous for brown bears and hence the name of this place stands on them. During winters, all the brown bears come over here and hibernate. As you continue to travel in the same direction, you can see a bridge, which is made up of logs.

Day 03- After breakfast from Balu Ka Gera to Shea Goru via Hampta pass – with pack lunch (4310. Meters ) (9km) (6/7hrs) night stay in camp

The trail moves along the river which is lined by tiny pink and yellow flowers. The trail from Balu Ka Gera to Shea Goru is moderately steep with a final sharp descent. If you trek during summer, you will find a lot of snow, else you may see a few snow patches. You will reach Shea Goru in about 2 hours. Camp overnight beside the river at Shea Goru. It has so much natural beauty that cannot be explained in words. It is a perfect location to click some fabulous pictures. Stalls are provided on the way where you can take some rest. About 14000 feet above the sea level is Lahaul which you will reach after leaving behind Hampta Pass. It is very important for you to start little early for the trekking today.

Keep yourself left of the valley which you will travel full day. It totally depends on the time of trekking but sometimes if you look back all you can see is some snow bridges. Maintaining left is the ultimate object in this trek, and you will keep it till you reach Hampta pass. Trekking in Hampta pass just drives you crazy as it is one of the most fabulous experiences you can have.

Day 04- After Breakfast form Shea Goru to Chatru by trek (5km) (3/4hrs) (3000. Meters ) after lunch drive to Chandartal (78) (3hrs) one way back to Chatru Camp night stay in tents

It is a gentle downhill walk to Chatru, with a few tricky sections The trail continue along the river, and there are two three huge glacial flows down the mountain side Camp at Chatru beside the many streams that flow through the meadows. Chatru is a beautiful camping spot with lovely mountain views. Post lunch, drive from Chatru to Chandratal, a beautiful moon shaped lake. Chandratal is 3 hours and 70 km away from Chatru. Camp overnight at a camping ground 4 km away from Chandra tal.

Day 5 :- After Breakfast Drive to Manali Visit to Rohtang Pass (13500, feet) .Manali

Depart from Chatru/Chandratal* to Manali early morning by shared cabs. Himalayan hikers will arrange vehicles to drop trekkers back to Manali. It will take about 4-6 hours to reach Manali depending on the condition of the roads. Book your return tickets from Manali late in the evening to give you enough travel buffer time.
