Sarutal Trek- Surpassing Lake amidst meadows

When it comes to trekking in our local mountain Garhwal Sankri in uttarakhand (India). Sarutal  trek  is a classic Summer trek. The trek provides a great opportunity for  all trekkers to see the scenic beauty and experience with us  the life of remote villages, Saur, Sankri range  Garhwal Himalayas.

 

From there on, Sarutal  Trek lies in the Govind Wild life Sanctuary and National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Getting base camp – Sankri  (From where the Sarutal trek starts) is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainbag , Damta , Nawgano, Purola, Mori, Netwar, Sankri Taluka  along the Tons River Osla. har-ki-dun, Manida lake, trek is one the easiest treks.

Day 1: Pick up to you from Dehradun Railway Station to Sankri (Drive (210km) (7/8 Hrs). (1950. Meters) breakfast and lunch on the way

  1. Camptifall – (Breakfast) Around – 8:30.am
  2. Purola – (Lunch) Around – 1:30.Pm

Day 2: Sankri to by Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha base camp (08 km) (4/5hours) (3400. Meters) over night stay in camp

 

Day 3: Kedarkantha base to Kedarkantha  Summit (12506. feet) (3800. Meters) Explore some time there take the beautiful pictures   .then trek again Dunda thach (06km) over night stay in tents

 

Day 4: Dunda thach to Pustara thach (11km) (5/6 Hours )  (3789 Meters ) (over night stay in tent

 

Day 5 : Pustara thach to Sarutal (10km) (4/5, Hours) (4250 Meters) over night stay in tents

 

Day 6 : Sarutal to  Pushtara thach (10 km) (4/5, Hours) (3789 Meters ) (over night stay in tent

 

Day 7 : Pustara thach to Gujar hat (11km) (4/5, Hours ) (3200 Meters) over night stay in tent

This is the only valley from where one can see Swargarohini – I, II, III, (6300, Meters) Bandarpoonch (6300 Meters )  and Blackpeak (6387, Meters ), Dhumdarkandi pass, Borsu pass, Fhachukandi pass, all together. One can also see the Ruinsara lake,  Rupin Valley, Bali Pass trek, Khimloga Peak, Baraadsar, Lake  peaks from here.

 

Sarutal trek  is a high altitude Lake located at 4250Meters  in Western Garhwal. Himalayas The Lake is visited annually by local village, Starting point Saur and our village sankri  folk who consider the Lake as sacred.

 

This day you will witness one of the most  beautiful places  alluring places of the world. Its impeccably beautiful and pleasing environment will surely entice you. See the many spices flowers and specially Sarutal lake.

 

This trek is predominately a ridge walk over long Kedar kantha bugyal and dunda bugyal meadow stretches offering wide views of the Gangotri peaks.

 

Swargarohini – I, II, III, (6300, Meters) Bandarpoonch (6300 Meters )  and Blackpeak (6387, Meters ) , Dhumdarkandi pass, Borsu pass, Fhachukandi pass, Peaks in the distance .The local folk refer to Saru Tal as the  Vishnu Dev  Dham with the other’s being .Another reason for referring to Saru Tal as the Dev  Dham is that this is the only location from where you can see all dev Asthal.

 

The trek starts from Sankri and over the first 3 days of the trek the trail climbs over the peak of Kedar Kantha (3812 Meters ) which is a well known peak in the region and offers wide views of the area. Over the . After visiting the sarutal Lake rather than retracing steps back there is an option of crossing the Fachu Kandi Pass ( 4589 Meters  ) and walking to Hanuman Chetti which is the road head for pilgrims heading to the Yumnotri temple. And Jankichatti.

Key Points about this trek:

– Level: Difficult (so first timers should avoid)

– Proper conditioning & training of body required

– Need proper gear & clothing for sub-zero temperatures

– Shoes are the single most important equipment

– High Altitude requires proper acclimatization

– Post monsoon or pre-monsoon is the best time. During rains the region is prone to landslides

– Phones don’t work

– Beautiful landscape so carry good photo gear (I couldn’t carry my best equipment)

– Travel light (my backpack was heavy at about 10 kg)

– Keep an extra day in your itinerary account for bad weather.

 

ATM Point & Mobile connectivity:-

Sankri is the last point where you will receive mobile network. Only Vodaphone and BSNL so ensure you finish your important telephone calls here. Inform anxious family members about poor connectivity during the trek.

Dehradun city is also where you will find the last ATM in case you need to withdraw money before starting the trek Journey.

 

Getting to the base camp HPMA – office and Hotel

Take an overnight train to Dehradun from Delhi. New Delhi-Dehradun A/C special train from New Delhi station is the best option. The train reaches Dehradun at 5.40 am. If you Meet to our office member and drive to Sankri base camp office Har-ki-dun  Road Sankri .

 

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the airport serving Dehradun, located about 25 km from the city. There is a daily flight from Delhi to Dehradun

By Bus

There is regular bus service from Delhi to Dehradun, from Delhi, ISBT Kashmere Gate.

We would suggest you to take only government buses from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private buses ply from outside ISBT and they are not trust worthiness.

Usually buses drop you at Dehradun ISBT. From there you have to come to Dehradun Railway Station meet us railway stion 6:30 Am.

The most common question asked is “What things to carry on a Trek?”

 

First of all trekkers must bring the documents mentioned below –

  1. Government ID proof, carry original and a photocopy of any of these – (Driving License, Adhar Card, Pan Card, Voter Id etc.)
  2. Medical certificate by a doctor
  3. Risk certificates

Clothes to Carry On A Trek

 

Carry clothes according to the season. In winters there is chilly cold and in summers the temperature remains cold. (Day and Night temperature varies)

 

-Jacket

 

Take at least 2 jackets with you, it should be warm enough to protect you against chilly cold.

 

-Trekking Pants

 

You should have 2 – 3 trek pants on a week long trek and take more for longer treks.

 

-Thermals

 

At night the temperature lowers and to keep yourself warm and sleep comfortably wear thermals.

 

-Warm clothes

 

Keep enough woolen layers and fleece according to the season.

 

-T- shirts

 

To avoid sunburns always carry full sleeved t shirts which dries easily and covers neck and arms properly.

 

-Poncho/Raincoat

 

They are useful during rain and snowfall.

It is wise to make your booking at least two months in advance. In the event of cancellation of trek/adventure activity services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reasons we must be notified of the same in writing. Cancellation charges will be effective from the date we receive advice in writing, and cancellation charges would be as follows.

 

Up to 30 Days: 90% cost is refundable

Between 21–30 Days: 50% cost is refundable
