Sarutal Trek- Surpassing Lake amidst meadows
In the Garhwal Himalayan region there are many places which nobody has stepped on yet and many treks were explored by the shepherds who went there in search of grassy fields.
Sarutal is one of the treks which was found by a shepherd, a unique lake amidst the meadows, it lies in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district at an altitude of 4,200m. This trek starts from Sankri which is the base camp of more than 20 treks and this place always remains busy by the trekkers. The trail goes through Kedarkantha to Sarutal.
Your trek will start with fetching sight of Himalayas and the trail takes you through dense forest and fascinating meadows, this place is rich in Flora and Fauna and it is home to a number of animals and birds, “Himalayan Monal” the state bird of Uttarakhand can be spotted in this region and the chirping sounds can be heard here. Sarutal offers panoramic views of Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag and Swargarohini, these panoramic views are captivating and captures the complete attention of people. It is mostly ridge and meadow walk and differs from easy to moderate, sometimes the path gets steep and then unknowingly a meadow welcomes you.
This place is at full bloom in the month of June and October, green meadows and wildflowers grow on them. In winters it gets all covered by snow, this place is a secret gem hidden in the Western Garhwal Himalayas.
This is the only valley from where one can see Swargarohini – I, II, III, (6300, Meters) Bandarpoonch (6300 Meters ) and Blackpeak (6387, Meters ), Dhumdarkandi pass, Borsu pass, Fhachukandi pass, all together. One can also see the Ruinsara lake, Rupin Valley, Bali Pass trek, Khimloga Peak, Baraadsar, Lake peaks from here.
Sarutal trek is a high altitude Lake located at 4250Meters in Western Garhwal. Himalayas The Lake is visited annually by local village, Starting point Saur and our village sankri folk who consider the Lake as sacred.

This trek is predominately a ridge walk over long Kedar kantha bugyal and dunda bugyal meadow stretches offering wide views of the Gangotri peaks.
Swargarohini – I, II, III, (6300, Meters) Bandarpoonch (6300 Meters ) and Blackpeak (6387, Meters ) , Dhumdarkandi pass, Borsu pass, Fhachukandi pass, Peaks in the distance .The local folk refer to Saru Tal as the Vishnu Dev Dham with the other’s being .Another reason for referring to Saru Tal as the Dev Dham is that this is the only location from where you can see all dev Asthal.
The trek starts from Sankri and over the first 3 days of the trek the trail climbs over the peak of Kedar Kantha (3812 Meters ) which is a well known peak in the region and offers wide views of the area. Key Points about this trek
Level: Difficult (so first timers should avoid)
Proper conditioning & training of body required
Need proper gear & clothing for sub-zero temperatures
Shoes are the single most important equipment
High Altitude requires proper acclimatization
Post monsoon or pre-monsoon is the best time. During rains the region is prone to landslides
Phones don’t work
Beautiful landscape so carry good photo gear (I couldn’t carry my best equipment)
Travel light (my backpack was heavy at about 10 kg)
Keep an extra day in your itinerary account for bad weather.
ATM Point & Mobile connectivity
Sankri is the last point where you will receive mobile network. Only Vodaphone and BSNL so ensure you finish your important telephone calls here. Inform anxious family members about poor connectivity during the trek.
Dehradun city is also where you will find the last ATM in case you need to withdraw money before starting the trek Journey.
Getting to the base camp HPMA – office and Hotel
Take an overnight train to Dehradun from Delhi. New Delhi-Dehradun A/C special train from New Delhi station is the best option. The train reaches Dehradun at 5.40 am. If you Meet to our office member and drive to Sankri base camp office Har-ki-dun Road Sankri .
Jolly Grant Airport is the airport serving Dehradun, located about 25 km from the city. There is a daily flight from Delhi to Dehradun

There is regular bus service from Delhi to Dehradun, from Delhi, ISBT Kashmere Gate.
We would suggest you to take only government buses from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private buses ply from outside ISBT and they are not trust worthiness.
Usually buses drop you at Dehradun ISBT. From there you have to come to Dehradun Railway Station meet us railway stion 6:30 Am.
