Pangarchulla peak Trek: A truly sublime trek with thrilling summit

Pangarchulla is a high peak and a fable trek in Uttarakhand at an altitude of 14,700 feet. Many adventure lovers and trekking enthusiasts have scaled this peak and many have a dream of scaling it. The base camp is “Joshimath” which you reach by going through famous religious places. The summit climb is not technically difficult but is tough and skills are needed.

One reason of its fame is the overwhelming views. Being the part of Nanda Devi Sanctuary, it gives the best sight of Nanda Devi, Ghori Parbat, Barmal, Chaukhamba and other tall shining peaks which glimmer in the backdrop.

Varied Sceneries in Pangarchulla peak Trek

The sights will change, when the trek starts there is wealthy Flora and Fauna. The trees found there are of Silver Birch, Pines, Oaks and Rhododendrons, you can also spot different animals and birds but this diminishes when you reach the snowline and the scenery changes.

Itinerary

Day 1:- Dehradun/Haridwar to Joshimath (6724 feet) (256 km) (10/12 hours)

We can pick you from Haridwar or Dehradun Railway Station, meet us at 6:30 am. Go through pilgrim vein from Haridwar to Joshimath and drive along River Ganga’s course.

At Devprayag you can see River Bhagirathi merging into Alaknanda River and the mountain views at the backdrop looks wonderful. Reach Joshimath at the time of dusk there your stay will in hotel or a guest house.

Day 2:- Drive from Joshimath to Dhak (12 km) trek to Gulling Top (9600 feet) (6 km) (4/5 hours)

After having breakfast drive is towards Dhak village, from here the trek starts. Ascent gradually for some time and you will come across “Karachi” a small village. It is amid tall mountains and there is green vegetation all across the hills with step farms.

After you gradually gain altitude you come acroos another high altitude village “Tugasi” it is a Himalayan village where Garhwali culture is followed. Rest here for some time and then head towards your campsite Gulling.

The campsite lies 0.5 km further Gulling village it is a wide green stretch which offers unusual sight of Garhwal Himalayas and 360 degree view of Hathi Parbat, Ghori Parbat and Dronagiri.

Setup your camps and overnight stay will be in tents.

Day 3:- Gulling top to Khulara (11,122 feet) (6 km) (5/6 hours)

Today’s trek is short (3 km) and the distance can be covered in 3 hours. The trail is through dark forest and ahead witness different scenery, there are undulating meadows in a series.

In winters it is a bliss to see these meadows totally covered in snow. Reach Gailgarh, it is windy wear enough clothes and keep yourself warm. Setup your camps, you can also go nearby to explore the area.

Day 4:- Devsu Bugyal to Ruinsara Lake (3500 m) (12 km) (6/7 hours)

Today’s trek is short (3 km) and the distance can be covered in 3 hours. The trail is through dark forest and ahead witness different scenery, there are undulating meadows in a series.

In winters it is a bliss to see these meadows totally covered in snow. Reach Gailgarh, it is windy wear enough clothes and keep yourself warm. Setup your camps, you can also go nearby to explore the area.

Day 5:- Gailgarh to Pangarchulla Peak (14,700 feet) and return to Khulara (9 km) (7/8 hours)

The trek is long and steep so start early today around 4:00 am, trekking on the snow fresh is easy. Do carry 2 liters water because further there are no water sources.

Start climbing a ridge, it is steep but can be crossed in half an hour. After you cross the ridge, Pangarchulla peak and other towering peaks will leave you awestruck by their clear sights. Further lies snow fields and the scenery changes.

The snow fields are levelled, here use your ice axe for cutting the thick snow. You will get the phenomenal views of Pangarchulla peak, Chaukhamba, Hathi Parbat, Ghodi Parbat, Mana and Kamet just before reaching base of Pangarchulla.

Once you come to the base, ridge climb starts which is steep. Now, take out the equipment and get ready for the summit climb and heavy wind makes the climb more challenging. Traverse this tough part and stand at a height of 14,700 meters, the first thing which will come into sight is Garhwal peaks. Many more snow clad peaks also can be seen from here

The extraordinary panorama views from Pangarchulla makes it a fable trek in Uttarakhand. After scaling the peak start the descent to Khulara, reach the campsite in next three hours and take care while your downhill trek.

Day 6:- Khulara to Dhak (12 km) (6/7 hours) and Drive to Joshimath (12 km)

Follow the same trail to get back to Dhak village through picturesque Himalayan villages with vanishing sight of snow clad mountains. The trek ends at this point.

Vehicle will be arranged till Joshimath, stay will be in a hotel or a guest house there.

Day 7:- Joshimath to Dehradun/Haridwar (256 km) (10/12 hours)

Post breakfast leave the place by taking unforgettable memories back. Leave early so that you can reach Dehradun/Haridwar by the evening.
