Borasu is a Dividing and Connecting Pass

Borasu Pass lies at an altitude of 5,450 meters and divides Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This pass has all the adventure hidden, in ancient times it was a trade route between Kinnaur and Har Ki Dun valley. Borasu Pass connects Har Ki Dun to Baspa valley.

Adventure Enthusiasts must Attempt this Trek

The trail of Borasu Pass is thrilling through high ridges, meadows, snow slopes and glaciers. The views of Bandarpoonch, Black peak, Har Ki Dun and Swargarohini are rewarding. It is a great trek for adventure lovers.

Borasu Pass is not for Beginners

The trails are exhilarating and demand fitness and knowledge. Proper equipment is needed, ascending and descending requires the use of ropes.  The climb is technically difficult so beginners should avoid this trek but it turns out to be great for the experienced.

ATM POINT – Purola is the last ATM point.

Mobile Connectivity -Your device will receive signals at Purola. At Sankri your device can receive BSNL and Vodafone signals but the connectivity is not good. There will be no networks ahead so finish all your important work and calls before starting the trek.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Dehradun to Sankri (1920 m) (210 km) (7/8 hours)

Our pick up point is Dehradun Railway station or ISBT, meet us there and then drive is towards Sankri. You can have your breakfast at Kempty Fall which is a famous picnic spot and is famous for a waterfall. Have your lunch in the middle of your journey at Purola.

It’s a picturesque drive to Sankri, you will get fetching views through your window, and the drive will be through Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainbagh, Data, Newman, Purola, Mori, Netwar these are beautiful places in the Himalayas. Sankri lies in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district, it is a village with a mini-market famous for wooden huts that serve delectable food. You will see apple orchards here and greenery all around.

Reach Sankri have a glace of snow-covered mountains, this place is pollution-free, enjoy the invigorating climate. We own a hotel there named “Swargarohini”, relax for the night here.

Day 2 – Sankri to Taluka (11 km) trek to Cheludgad (2700 m) (13 km) (4/5 hours)

Have your breakfast and then leave for Taluka by taxi, it is 11 km away from Sankri when you reach there to take a short break and start your trek towards Cheludgad, the trail takes you through dense pine forest, varieties of animals live in this region as it is rich in Flora and Fauna. The trail is rough and is not in a very good condition.

If you lack time to reach Cheludgad camp then 2 km ahead Taluka there is a campsite near a stream which is a water source for that campsite. Set up your tents, enjoy dinner and stay in tents.

Day 3 – Cheludgad to Seematra (3400 m) (7 km) (4/5 hours)

Today’s trek is 7 km long and it can be done in 4-5 hours, have your breakfast early in the morning and packed lunch will be provided. Start heading from Cheludgad towards Sumatra.

You can know about the traditional values of people living here by talking to the villagers, this place has got scenic views and is extremely beautiful. The greenery is eye pleasing and heart-warming and. In the month of winters it remains covered in snow and looks enticing.

This place is related to mythology and you can know about many stories of Pandavas and Kauravas. Villagers here grow potato, Rajma and Red rice is very famous her. They have sheeps and the villagers use their wool to weave coats, folk dresses and jackets.
Here is a very famous village named OSLA there is a temple of “Someshwar Mahadev” trek towards this village, the walk is easy along the side of river. Reach your campsite with beauty all around, enjoy food and stay at tents.

Day 04- Seematra to Har Ki Dun (3645 m) (7 km) (4/5 hours)

Have your breakfast early at Seematra which is 7 km away from here, start your trek with packed lunch to “Har Ki Dun” valley also known as “The Valley of Gods”.

On the trail to Har Ki Dun you will come across many streams from where you can fill your water bottles, ascent slowly there are number of pine trees on the way. From there the snow-capped mountains glimmer from a distance and attracts the eye of visitor, the views there are fetching and captivating.

This area is home to a number of animals and birds, colorful flowers bloom making this place more beautiful, spotting Himalayan birds is a delight as they look adorable. Now, as you go further the climb gets steep when you cross this region you will see Har Ki Dun a field all covered by snow which is divided by Karmanasha stream.

This valley looks divine with exotic views and inherent beauty, from there you can have amazing views of mountains standing tall. Swargarohini from here looks the most beautiful. The environment of this place is soothing and peaceful, it is believed that Pandavas ascent to heaven was through this idyllic valley.

Your campsite for today is this ideal place, spend your night in the divine aura and have your food in tents.

Day 05- Har Ki Dun to Ratta Tho (4105 m) (7 km) (4/5 hours)

The other name of Ratta Tho is Lal Patthar. You can reach there in 4 to 5 hours because the distance is 7 km. On the right of the trail Har Ki Dun Ganga flows.

The valley is an ascending one, the path is muddy after crossing this section you can see a wide meadow present on other side of the river. Now trek on the trail and Maninda Lake will be visible, after a short hike a green meadow will welcome you.

Reach Ratta Tho it lies just before Borasu glacier. It is a wide field with many flowers blooming, this campsite is windy because of its high altitude. So wear proper clothes to keep yourself warm. Setup your camps here and comfortably stay in tents.

Day 06 – Ratta Tho to Upper Lamjunga (4899 m) (8 km) (5 hours)

Today the trek is to Upper Lamjunga and the climb is steep but the views of Borasu pass will not leave your sight. Continue trekking on the muddy trail and follow the right bank of river.

Go through meadows and ahead you have to cross a stream. After crossing the section of meadows trek through the rocky area. The path is a mixture of rocky and grassy with many streams on the way. Cross a ridge it may take 40 to 45 minutes to reach the flat part of land.

Start the steep climb and reach a campsite which is used by the shepherds, it offers magical views of Borasu Pass and the peak both. Ascent towards Upper Lamjunga camp which you will reach after crossing the ridge.

Mountains surround this campsite and Borasu glacier and Borasu Pass both are visible from here. You can find snow here in the month of June also. Pitch your tents and settle for the day.

Day 07 – Upper Lamjunga to Borasu Pass (5450 m) and Bonga Camp (4470 m) (11 km) (6/7 hours)

Leave Upper Lamjunga and head towards Borasu Pass, the trek is hard and long. Pass through the big rocks on the way, use your equipment to move forward. Ice axe is very important to cut the snow and move further.

Start climbing the sheer ridges, crossing them would not be easy because of the big rocks. After three hours of hike you can reach Borasu Pass. From there you can see the all-white mountain peaks, snow fields and glaciers.

The views of Bandarpoonch, Black peak, Har Ki Dun and Swargarohini are rewarding. Start the descent, you may need ropes for it or slide down until you reach the levelled part. On the way see frozen waterfalls and start ascending to Bonga campsite from there you can see Bonga peak.

After crossing a stream reach a blooming meadow, this campsite looks perfect because of the wide green meadows and clear streams around. The mountains look amusing covered in snow. Pitch your tents and settle for the day.

Day 08 – Bonga to Chitkul via Rani Kanda and Drive to Shimla (3450 m) (13 km) (6/7 hours)

Start through the trail which has many loose rocks and is muddy. Follow the stream and after crossing it you will trek through a rocky terrain. There are many streams on the way.
The trail becomes levelled and temporary settlement of shepherds can be seen there. Go through a meadow a stream flows through it, now the forest section starts at the end of it Rani Kanda comes into sight.

After some descents, you can reach Rani Kanda. After a short break, leave for Chitkul village. The trail is well maintained, cross bridges to move ahead. It has beautiful houses of wood and green fields which are used for cultivation. Vehicles will be arranged from Chitkul to Shimla.
