Vijay Top was explored by team “HPMA” in 2006

This virgin trek lies in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district at an altitude of (3878 m) which was explored by “Har Ki Dun Protection and Mountaineering Association” in 2006. A not known trek with few traces of footsteps “Vijay Top” is the real paradise overshadowing all other mighty peaks in Garhwal Himalayas.

 

A Real Paradise in Winters

 

The real beauty of the magnificent mountains is revealed here, it remains engulfed by the snowfall in winters. A thick snow sheet covers this mighty peak making it pristine and in summers the scenery changes from white to all green which resembles the wonderland not traversed by many. This trek is hidden beauty among the Himalayan Mountains not known by the trekkers and can be called a true gem.

 

Last village on trail “Bhitri”

 

It starts from the village “Bhitri” which is the last on trail and you go through many Himalayan villages located uphill and the people with their smiling faces seems to be the happiest. The houses made of wood, well designed temples and food cultivation amidst the crude nature will ignite a craving to know them in close proximity.

 

Unparalleled Summit Views

 

– Vijay top is at an altitude of 3878 m and from there Kedarkantha peak (3,800 m) can be clearly seen. The panorama sight of snow covered mountains is spectacular.

 

– One can see Swargarohini – (I) (II) (III) (6300 m), Bandar poonch (6316 m) and Black peak (6387 m) all together. One can also see Rupin & Supin valley, Baraadsar range, Kanasar Lake, Phulara ridge, Bali Pass and Sarutal. The panorama views will make you add Vijay top in the list of your favorite treks.

Vijay Top Trek Details Itinerary

 

Day 1- Dehradun Railway Station to Himari (Drive (207km) (7/8 hours) (5,100 feet)

 

Himari is at an altitude of (5,100 feet). The drive to Himari camp is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainbagh, Damta, Nawgano, Purola, Mori and Netwar. The journey is towards Tons valley.

 

The drive to Himari camp is on beautiful mountain roads and steadily gain altitude as you reach Dhaula. Deep valleys and thick forest accompanies you, there is beautiful Rupin River and water of the river is crystal clear with many spectacular views.

 

This campsite is great for birding and surrounded by beautiful mountains and local villages.

 

Day 2- Himari to Sarutal (7 km) (5/6 hours) (2000 m)

 

Have breakfast in the morning and then start your trek to the right of River Rupin (1500 m) to Pujali Village and to Bhitri Village. You will come across small fields and many apple orchards when you reach village Bhitri (2500 m). Sarutal is a unique lake amidst the beautiful meadows.

 

You can see traditional values and local life of the villagers and get to know them more, there are some villages located uphill. Wheat and cultivation of red rice is done here. The trail takes you through dense pine forest and you can have sight of Himachal Mountains and Changsheel valley can be seen from top of the village Bhitri.

 

There is a last village temple and ahead we will setup our camps a kilometre further in a large meadow, this beautiful lake is amidst the meadows which holds the complete attention of the visitors, it gets covered in snow completely during winters. Retire for the night in camps.

 

Day 3- Sarutal to Badang (8 km) (5/6 hours) (2600 m)
Have morning breakfast at the camp and then trek starts, the area is into a bright green land. Badang is a meadow at a high point on the ridge dividing the Rupin and Supin valley and then the panorama views are visible from there.

 

Towards the north you can see west peaks of Himachal. Early morning views from there are mesmerising. You can see Swargarohini from here (6,387 m) it is a gigantic mountain with four separate peaks and looks very unique and enchanting.

 

Then the trail moves through fairly dense forest sections as we deliberately gain height. The Rupin and Supin flows on the west and can be seen flowing through the valley, now we have to head towards North. Enter into small meadows and streams snakes their way through them on the way, you can take your rest breaks here.

 

Start trekking towards Badang it is a wide meadow and is bright green the setting is picturesque.

 

Day 4- Badang to Vijay Top (3878 m) and back to Badang (6 hours) (2600 m)

 

Today you have to ascend all way up to Vijay Top which is at an altitude of 3878 m, there will be snow covered trails in winters. Snow makes it hard to ascend high but by following the instructions of trekking guide the climb can be completed without difficulties.

 

Trek through the forest and on the way you can notice the footsteps of animals who live in this area, as you go higher the sight of mountain peaks will surprise and motivate you to climb efficiently. As you go further Vijay Top will be visible and the first sight will add a spark to reach there, continue your trek and don’t miss out to witness the beautiful surroundings.

 

It is an easy to moderate climb, some parts gets challenging because of snow but can be traversed by some efforts. When you finally reach Vijay Top the peaks standing high seems to be staring at you, such close views of the mountains are very hard to find. The panorama views are visible from the summit, relish the sights of Swargarohini – (I) (II) (III) (6300 m), Bandar poonch peak (6316 m) and Black peak (6387 m) all together. Rupin & Supin valley, Baraadsar range, Kanasar Lake, Phulara ridge, Bali Pass and Sarutal.

 

After spending some time at the top start descending towards Badang, be careful while descending down and reach your campsite. Spend your night in tents.

 

Day 5- Badang to Sarutal (8 km) (5/6 hours) (2000 m)

 

Wake up early to witness the morning views from Badang with a hot cup of tea , Swargarohini looks beautiful from there, bid goodbye to this beautiful wide meadow and leave for Sarutal which was your campsite on Day 2.

 

Today you have to descend till Sarutal, trek through forest sections and surpassing meadows, the splendid views will not leave your side and accompany you till you reach your campsite Sarutal. Setup your camps have delicious food and rest for the night here.

 

Day 6- Sarutal to Bhitri village and on same day departure to Dehradun

 

Today is the last day of your trek and you will be returning Dehradun away from these mountains but before departure to Dehradun you will come across a village named “Bhitri”, which is the last on trail.

 

Trek through the beautiful forest covered in snow, this last trek will make you feel delighted because of the extraordinary moments and spell binding views from “Vijay Top” while you walk through the forest have a look at every possible thing and it will leave you surprised.

 

Reach this beautiful Himalayan village where you can see the smiling faces which seems to be the happiest. The houses made of wood, well designed temples and food cultivation amidst the crude nature will ignite a craving to know them in close proximity.

After spending some time there leave for Dehradun, vehicles will be arranged for you.

  1. Original and photocopy of government photo identity card- ( Adhar Card, driving license, voters ID, etc.)
  2. Medical Certificate (first part to be filled by a doctor and second part by the trekker)

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
