Valley of flower Trek – Trek to riot of colors, located in Chamoli District

Valley of Flowers trek is located in Chamoli district in Uttarakhand India. an UNESCO World heritages site embedded deep within the himalayan peaks of Uttarakhand, it was discovered in 1931 by a super trekker British Traveler frank Mr. Smith when he was heading to mount Kamet peak , Valley of Flowers trek is a vibrant and splendid national park reposing in west himalayas.


Nestled in Uttarakhand, this alluring place is famous for its charming meadows of alpine flowers. Endowed with a diverse range of endemic flora, it is picturesque in its beauty. this lush region is also home to some rare and endangered animal species. you may spot animals like Asiatic black deer, snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, brown bear and blue sheep.


High in the lofty himalayas of the Garhwal region sprawls this enchanting valley. legends believe it to be the place from where God Hanuman had collected the Sanjeevani buti for curing Lakshmana. this place has floral pastures, running streams and beautiful backdrop of the mountains

Day 1: Risikesh/ Dehradun/ Haridwar  to Joshimath / Govindgaht (315 Km) (8/9hrs) (1800, Meters )


Day 2: Joshimath to Govindghat by taxi (18km) same day trek to Ghangria (13 Km) (6/7 Hours ) (3078, Meters )


Day 3: Ghangria to Valley of flowers (10/12km) with pack lunch, enjoying to 2/3 hrs beautiful valley.


Day 4: Ghangria to Hemkund Sahib Ji by trek (06km) (4/5hrs) (4400, Meters ) back to Hotel in Gangariya


Day 5: Ghangria to Govindghat by trek (13 Km) same day drive to Badrinath (28 Km) on the way visit to Pandukesher temple


Day 6: Badrinath to Risikesh by taxi (345 Km) (10/11hrs) lunch on the way Devpariya/ Shrinagar

Valley of Flowers Trek Details Itinerary


Day 01- Picks you up from Risikesh/ Dehradun/ Haridwar to Joshimath / Govindgaht, by taxi (315km) (8/9 Hours ) (1800, Meters ) Over night stay in hotel


Morning meet our HPMA team and then drive to Joshimath  which takes about (8 hours). the drive is spectacular and along the Shrinagar, Ganga, Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. the historical town is situated on the confluence of river Alaknanda & Bhagirathi river which makes the holy Ganges, reach Joshimath  and from here trek to the most beautiful, Uttarakhand.



Day 02:-Joshimath to Govindghat by taxi (18 Km) Same day trek to Ghangria (13 Km) (6/7, Hours) (3078, Meters) Over night stay in hotel


After breakfast from Joshimath, the trail is well-defined. It is usually full of Sikhs, and more trekkers pilgrims walking up and down. notice the cleanliness on the trail despite hundreds treading upon it every day. It’s a heartening and motivating sight.  the 9 km trek starts from Poolna Road, head to Ghangria goes all the way along the river. stop by any roadside dabha hotel for a drink or a bite to eat , coffee sneaks, soup lunch. the trail is alternately sunny and shaded. at around the midpoint of the day’s trek.


Day 03 :- Ghangria to Valley of flowers (10/12km) with pack lunch. enjoying 2/3 hrs beautiful valley see the mountain. Round Trek back to hotel


This day you will witness one of the most beautiful places alluring places of the world. Its impeccably beautiful and pleasing environment will surely entice you. See the many spices flowers, Post monsoons, the floor of the valley is covered with a carpet of myriad colors!It is an awesome sight of colors with a contrasting back drop of majestic peaks.

the valley is really a botanists’dreamland! one can find flowers, leaves, buds of various shapes, sizes, color, all growing together. notice various types of bees and insects hovering on these strange flowers.


Day 04 :- Ghangria to Hemkund Sahib Ji by trek (06 km) (4/5 Hours ) (4400, Meters ) back to Hotel in Gangariya

This day is very special, we are going to Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji Carry sufficient water. you can refill your water bottles at the hotels that line the trail.
start your day early. the weather can be impulsive in the afternoon and sudden cloud cover and rain can get you stranded if you do not get down on time. The thought of getting up before 5.00 am to 6:00 am can be daunting but the Gurudwara makes it easy. Their day . singing of bhajans. By 5.00 am, you hear people outside the gate of the Gurudwara . Hemkund Sahib. Get up and grab a hot drink of chai. Khichadi provide to you very sweet and helpful people at sewadwar , need A poncho (light rain coat) and a trekking pole can be handy on the trek to Hemkund. Pass the deviation to Valley of flowers. Continue to trek up the steep path slowly but steadily.
Day 05:-Ghangria to Govindghat by trek (13 Km) Same day Drive to Badrinath (28 Km) on the way visit to Pandukesher temple over night stay in hotel at Badrinath  



Day 06:- From Badrinath to Risikesh by taxi (345 Km) (10/11hrs) lunch on the way Devpariya/ Shrinagar

Location of Valley of Flowers Trek

Valley of Flowers Trek is a  located in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand India. This is remotely villages  located and it takes minimum 3, 4  days to reach Valley of Flowers from Haridwar. The last motor-able point is Govindghat. Getting to the base camp Joshimath, Govindghat – Ghangria  !!

Take an overnight train to Dehradun from Delhi. New Delhi-Dehradun A/C special train from New Delhi station is the best option. The train reaches Dehradun at 5.40 am. If you Meet to our office member and drive to from Dehradun to  base Joshimath The drive is spectacular and along the Ganga, Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. En route visit at Devprayag. The historical town is situated on the confluence of river Alaknanda & Bhagirathi River which makes the holy Ganges.   this is beautiful  Camp Site ..Over night stay in Hotel!!

Key Points about this trek:

– Level: Difficult (so first timers should avoid)

– Proper conditioning & training of body required

– Need proper gear & clothing for sub-zero temperatures

– Shoes are the single most important equipment

– High Altitude requires proper acclimatization

– Post monsoon or pre-monsoon is the best time. During rains the region is prone to landslides

– Phones don’t work

– Beautiful landscape so carry good photo gear (I couldn’t carry my best equipment)

– Travel light (my backpack was heavy at about 10 kg)

– Keep an extra day in your itinerary for .account for bad weather


ATM Point & Mobile connectivity:-

Govindghat   is the last point where you will receive mobile network. Only BSNL so ensure you finish your important telephone calls here. Inform anxious family members about poor connectivity during the trek.

Dehradun, Joshimath, and Badrinath  city is also where you will find the last ATM in case you need to withdraw money before starting the trek Journey.

Mandatory Documents

Please carry the below documents.

  1. Original and photocopy of government photo identity card- ( Adhar Card, driving license, voters ID, etc.)
  2. Medical Certificate (first part to be filled by a doctor and second part by the trekker)
  3. Risk Certificates

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
  20. Packet Knife : Optional
