Nag Tibba Trek – A weekend trek in Himalayas

Nag Tibba is in the middle of Dhauladhar and Pin prajal at an altitude of 9,915 feet.  There is a temple of Nag Devta, villagers come here to worship and believe that it is the home of their God. In this weekend trek you can get a plenty of enchanting views in just two days. The drive is through Mussoorie, Pantwari and Nowgaon, these places offer beautiful views which you can enjoy while drive to your destination.


The ranges visible from summit are Bandarpoonch peak, Gangotri peaks, Doon valley, peaks of Changabang and Kedarkantha peak, you get amazing views of these places and a variety of changing landscapes. This is the easiest trek in Himalayas beginners can start from this trek and it can be done throughout the year.

Short Itinerary Nag Tibba Trek



Day 1:- Dehradun to Naogaon via Pantwari (123 km) (4/5 hours) and trek to Nag Tibba base camp (3 km)


Day 2:- Nag Tibba base camp (5249 feet) to Nag Tibba summit (9955 feet); Nag Tibba summit to Naogaon and Drive to Mussoorie/Dehradun.



Nagtibba Trek Details, Itinerary



Day 1: Dehradun to Naogaon via Pantwari (123 Km) (4/5 hours) and trek to Nag Tibba base camp (3 Km) 


Our pick up point is Dehradun Railway station from there we will leave for Nowgaon, there are multiple routes to reach there but we will take the route via Pantwari village, this route is the best and shortest. You can reach there in 4/5 hours after reaching there take a break and then   start trekking towards Nag tibba base camp which is at an altitude of (1600 m).  After some minutes of trekking you can see a temple of “Nag Devta”.


The trail from here turns from cemented to rocky. Now, ascend is a mixture of steep and leveled walks, there are water sources on the way, continue trekking and the side part of a hill will be visible. Go through a forest and a small clearing will welcome you. After reaching your campsite you can ask your guide about the myths related to this place and enjoy stories at dinner time and after having food enjoy staying in tents.


Day 02: Nag Tibba base camp (5249 feet) to Nag Tibba summit (9955 feet); Nag Tibba summit to Naogaon and Drive to Mussoorie/Dehradun


First thing to do at your campsite early morning is watch the sun rising, it looks beautiful and captivating. Have light breakfast and then start your trek. The trails are good but the snow in winters makes it difficult to walk. Go through a dense forest and you can reach the summit in 5/6 hours, climb to the Nag Tibba summit (3500 m) is steep and there is a temple of “Nag Devta” which is worshipped the local villagers and they believe Nag Devta live here.


When you reach summit enjoy the exotic views of Bandarpoonch peak, Gangotri peaks, Doon valley, peaks of Changabang and Kedarkantha peak. After spending some time there head back to Nag Tibba base camp from here trek back to Naogaon then proceed to Dehradun.

Please carry the below documents.

  1. Original and photocopy of government photo identity card- ( Adhar Card, driving license, voters ID, etc.)
  2. Medical Certificate (first part to be filled by a doctor and second part by the trekker)

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
  20. Packet Knife : Optional
