Kanasar Lake – Untouched lake amidst beguiling valleys

The kanasar lake Always an element of curiosity pounds up when visiting an area that is a remote and less known. Kanasar Lake (4600 Meters), located between the Rupin & Supin Valley part of Nalgan valleys in Western Garhwal is one such location.

Location Chart : Drive Dehradun, Mussorie, Nowgaon, Purola, Netwar, Dhaula, Bitri, MasundhaDhar, Dhalka, Dhar, Dev Bhasa, Baraadsar Lake, kukr kandi, manji ban , liwari , Dhara, Jakhol, Sankari, Netwar, Dehradun. It is located in the northeastern part of uttarakhand starting from close to the Himachal border, heading east and then south
Starting point – Picks you up from Dehradun Railway Station and enroute to Sankri base camp.

 

Trek Itinerary- Kanasar lake trek

 

Day 01 – Our vehicle picks you up from Dehradun Railway station and then en route towards Sankri (210km) (7/8Hours) (1920 Mt)

 

Day 02- Sankri to Himari by taxi (31 Km ) same day trek to Sarutal by Trek (7km)(5/6, Hours ) (2000 Metrs .) over night stay in tents.

 

Day 03 – Sarutal To Badang by trek (8, km) (5/6 Hours )( (2600, Meters .) overnight stay in tents.

 

Day 04 – Badang to Masunda Dhar via (Vijay Top) by trek (9 Km) (4/5, Hours) (3600, Meters) overnight stay in tents

 

Day 05- Masunda Dhar to Ddalkadhar (Devbasa) by trek (5/7 Km) (4/5, Hours) (3650mt) overnight stay in tents

 

Day 06- Dev Basa to Baraadsar Ridge by trek (07 Km) (4/5, Hours) (4,400, Meters) overnight stay in tents

 

Day 07 : Baradsar lake to Kukurkandi by trek (6km)(4/5 Hours) ngith stay in tent

 

Day 08 : Kukurandi to Manjiban by trek (7 Km) night stay in tent

Why Kanasar Lake trek ?

-Snowfall starts from December and is there till April, there are all snow covered meadows at that time.
-Different adventurous activities in one trek. See 02 beautiful lakes. Baraadsar lake, and Kanasar lake
-Boredom can never strike you while travelling to Kanasar lake, Mussoorie, Nowgaon, purola, mori, sankri and other beautiful places are on the way.
-The view from the top of Kanasar lake ridge is one of the best reason of its beauty. .
Religious place, different culture you can get to about their culture from the localites.
-From top of Kanasar lake . black peak , Swargarohini peak, Bandarpoonch (monkey-tail), Char-sing is visible.

As the crow flies, it is 5 km from Baraadsar Lake, a known lake in the region. Sheer expanse of the lake and its magical surrounding is amazing.Possible routes to the lake – the approach from the Supin valley, crossing nalgan pass from sangla and from Jakhol.It is usually visited by shepards in search of green pastures.The hidden lake is inaccessible in winters due to steep paths.

 

Best season to do Kanasar lake – 15 may to 25 June & firest week of September to Last week of December

The trek starts from middle of April, May. It is not possible to do kanasar lake Baraadsar lake in the first weeks of may as the snow is too high. First time trekkers to high altitude trekking must target June rather than May to do kanasar lake. The best season in summer to do kanasar lake is in June.

Monsoon hits the kanasar lake slope after first week of September. It is not possible to do the kanasar lake trek in July, August and early September when the monsoon is vigorous and active.

The views are closed. Like, rupin ghati, dhadara kuwar Swargarohini, Khimloga , Black Peak Incessant rain makes the trail slippery and unstable High Altitude Snow Peak and 03 beautiful lake In this trek It is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Western Himalayas. A delight for trekkers, in summer best time do this trek.

This valley is accessible through Govind National Park -known for its rich variety of flora and fauna.
The trail through alpine meadows, moraine ridges, glacier basins, pine forests and ancient villages, gives you spectacular valley views and a chance to experience the wonderful slow-paced local lifestyle.

 

Getting to the HPMA Base Camp office Sankri

All trekkers take the overnight train Dehradun to from Delhi- Dehradun Special A/C train from New Delhi station the best option to you. Train reached at dehradun railway station morning 5:45 am if  you Meet to Our office Member –

HPMA – Arrange to you transportation for you from Dehradun Railway station to sankri and back the transport is in Innova, Bolero Tampo travller

 

Key Points about this trek:

Level: Difficult (so first timers should avoid)
Proper conditioning & training of body required
Need proper gear &
clothing for sub-zero temperatures
Shoes are the single most important equipment
High Altitude requires proper acclimatisation
Post monsoon or pre-monsoon is the best time.
During rains the region is prone to landslides
Phones don’t work
Beautiful landscape so carry good photo gear (I couldn’t carry my best equipment)
Travel light (my backpack was heavy at about 10 kg)
Keep an extra day in your itinerary for crossing the pass to account for bad weather

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
  20. Packet Knife : Optional
