The drive to Sankri ( From where the . .Dhumdarkandi pass tre. trek starts) is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Dehradun , Mussoorie, Nainbag, Damta, Nawgano, Purola, Mori, Netwar, Sankri Taluka along the Tons River Osla ..Ruinsara lake, Kyarkoti base . But note that it’s a difficult and long trek. .

The trek starts from the the Sankri base camp , Govind Wild life Sanctuary and National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

Why Dhumdar Kandi Pass Trek?

First recognized by James Baillie in 1815 as a pass which 'is very lofty and wild range to the north of Black Peak and Banderpunch and along which there is a very alarming road leading to remote parts of Rawaeen (upper Tons Valley)', the DhumdharKandi pass managed to keep its secrets till 1987 when a team from West Bengal crossed it successfully.

The pass connects Supin River valley end of trek Bhagirathi and In ancient times it is believed that local villagers, sankri , gangad , osla, traders and even invaders have used this pass as a shortcut to get into the remote ganga valley Valley. It is one of the unique treks where the glaciers on either side of the pass feed two different big rivers, the Bhagirathi and the Yamuna.

Damdar Kandi trek is a must for a genuine adventurist. It is an unexplored trail in the Garhwal Himalayas, uttarakhand complimented with zero human presence and lots of challenges.

Dhumdarkandi pass Trek lies in the Govind Wild life Sanctuary and National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

Key Points about this trek:

– Level: Nalgan Pass – Difficult (so first timers should avoid)
– Proper conditioning & training of body required
– Need proper gear & clothing for sub-zero temperatures
– Shoes are the single most important equipment
– High Altitude requires proper acclimatization
– Post monsoon or pre-monsoon is the best time. During rains the region is prone to landslides
– Phones don't work
– Beautiful landscape so carry good photo gear (I couldn't carry my best equipment)
– Travel light (my backpack was heavy at about 12 kg)
– Keep an extra day in your itinerary for crossing the pass to account for bad weather

ATM Point & Mobile connectivity:-
Sankri is the last point where you will receive mobile network. Only Vodaphone and BSNL so ensure you finish your important telephone calls here. Inform anxious family members about poor connectivity during the trek.
