Brahmtal Trek – A surpassing winter trek in Garhwal Himalayas

Brahma tal is a winter trek which is best when done in January and February in peak winters. It is all covered by snow and turns totally white. It is in the Himalayas. Here are changing sceneries, you will go from thick forests to vast meadows and camping around lakes is fun. there are forest of Oaks and Rhododendrons which are all covered by snow.

 

this is a desired trekking destination because of the open snow covered meadows and camping around frozen lakes makes this trek an interesting one. Summit views cannot be matched to other trek which lies at this altitude. Brahma tal trek is not difficult and beginners can go for this trek to have an experience thrilling snowfall in winters.

Short Itinerary for Brahmatal Trek

 

 

 

Day 1: Kathgodam to Lohajung (215km) (9 hours) (7,600 feet)

 

Day 2: Lohajung (7,600 feet) to Bekaltal (9,885 feet) (5 hours 6km)

 

Day 3: Bekaltal (9,885 feet) to Brahmatal (10,440 feet) (5-6 hours) (7km)

 

Day 4: Brahmatal (10,440 feet) to Brahmatal Top (12,250 feet) and then to Daldum   (5 hours) (8 km)

 

Day 5: Daldum to Lohajung (4km) (2/3hrs) (2330Mt)

 

Day 6: Lohajung to Kathgodam (215km)

 

 

Brahmatal Trek Details Itinerary

 

 

Day 1: Kathgodam to Lohajung (215km) (9-10 hours) (7,600 feet)

 

Nainital is 25km away from Kathgodam and Haldwani is 9km away. from Kathgodam the journey is of 9 to 10 hours to Lohajung, so reach Kathgodam early in the morning. Drive to Lohajung takes you through some beautiful places like Bhimtal, it is one of the seven lakes.

 

The way takes you through some regions like Almora, Kausani and Baijnath. from Kausani you some of the Great Himalayan ranges are visible they are Ghori Parvat, Hathi parvat, Nanda Ghuti, Mt. Trishul, Nandadevi and Pancha chulli group, these all are visible, you would not take your eyes off them.

 

Lohajung is that place where Goddess Parvati had fight with demon with Lohasur from then this place is named as Lohajung which means fight with Lohasur.

 

Day 2: Lohajung (7,600 feet) to Bekaltal (9,885 feet) (5 hours) (6km)

 

We will go to upper region of Lohajung through a well-marked stone trail which goes through alluring forest with few houses lined aside. Continue walking and after a short duration of time you will reach a village named “Mandoli village”.  climb higher and you will see Kail valley there are two rivers Kail and Pindari, you can refill your water bottles from there and further are water pipes from where the water is supplied to Lohajung.

 

When you go further you can see Budla, here are group of few homes which are along with Rhododendron trees. then cross a bridge over a stream and take a break at Begum you get splendid and spectacular views of Navali Bugyal, the views are will refresh you if you get tired. After begum comes another stream and after one hour of ascend you will come across another stream named Gujrani. In this area here are plenty of streams, you can refill your water bottles as the water here is clean.

 

Now after 1.5 hour you will reach your campsite Bekaltal. This campsite is beautiful, Bekaltal is a glacial lake in between dense oak forest and this lake adds beauty to it. You can camp near a beautiful lake Khopdaliya. Setup your tents there dinner and overnight stay in tents.

 

Day 3: Bekaltal (9,885 feet) to Brahmatal (10,440 feet) (5-6 hours) (7km)

 

Starting is by ascending steeply into the forest of Oak and Rhododendrons, after a tiring trek of 1 hour you will reach a meadow. now ascend is gentle till the highest point and when you reach the highest point then it will be an easy descend to serene Brahmatal. throughout the day you will have the views of Nainital and Almora side valley.

 

The mountains will be visible from there Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, you will have majestic views of these mountains from there. our camping site is Brahmatal, few metres away from the lake and it is clearly visible. In case if weather changes and there is heavy snowfall another campsite will be Khabekhal, you will reach by going through a thick forest. Setup your tents at the campsite dinner and overnight stay in tents.

 

Day 4: Brahmatal (10,440 feet) to Brahmatal Top (12,250 feet) and then to Daldum   (5 hours) (8 km)

 

Today you will go to Brahmatal top, there are only ascents till you reach Brahmatal top, it is at high altitude; trek for an hour and you will reach Chota jhandidar. now, you have to pass through Chota and Bada Jhandidae to reach on the top. The trail is zig zag and valley is on both the sides.

 

Brahma Tal top is a steep ascent which you will cover in 2-3 hours. The sparkling sky adds glitter to the view of Himalayas, Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti are clearly visible as never before on the previous days.

 

Now, your campsite Daldum is 3 hours away from Brahmatal top and the trail to reach Daldum is through forest, spend time on Brahmatal top facing the splendid peaks then plan your trek to Daldum. Reach there dinner and overnight stay in tents.

 

Day 5: Daldum to Lohajung (4km) (2/3hrs) (2330Mt)

 

After having breakfast at Daldum campsite, the trees will refresh and energize you for descend, today is the last day of your trek. the distance from Daldum to Lohajung is 4 km and it will take 2 to 3 hours to reach there. you will reach Malling when the forest ends, you will reach there in half an hour.

 

On slopes you will some houses of villages. Then follow the trail made up of stone, this trail is made up by the villagers and is used frequently. follow that trail and you will reach Lohajung. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

 

Day 6: Lohajung to Kathgodam (215km)

 

Distance is 215 km from Lohajung to Kathgodam by taxi.

Mandatory Documents

Please carry the below documents.

  1. Original and photocopy of government photo identity card- ( Adhar Card, driving license, voters ID, etc.)
  2. Medical Certificate (first part to be filled by a doctor and second part by the trekker)
  3. Risk Certificates

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
  20. Packet Knife : Optional

In the event of cancellation of trek/adventure activity services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reasons we must be notified of the same in writing.
