There are high ridges in all directions and in the middle of this ‘cauldron’ slightly lies the Rupin & Supin Valley

The Himalayan vistas on this trek will surely mesmerise you and leave you in awe. Go for the Rupin Supin Trek adventure to take in the beauty of the Himalayas and to breathe in the fresh mountain air! This is an ideal beginners trek and is takes you through mountain villages, which are seldom visited. The trek starts at Bitri village in the Rupin valley. The chief objective is to cross the high ridge separating the Rupin and Supin valley. The initial part of the trek takes you through a thick forest. On Day 3, the forest disappears and you start walking through meadows. After a steady climb, you reach Vijay Top (3700 Meters ), the high point on the ridge separating Rupin and Supin valleys. It’s nothing short of panoramic, commanding stunning view in all directions.

Best season to do Rupin &  Supin Valley trek

The trek starts from middle of April, May. It is not possible to do Rupin & Supin Valley trek   in the first weeks of April  as the snow is too high. First time trekkers to high altitude trekking must target June rather than May to do Rupin & Supin Valley trek. The best season in summer to do Rupin & Supin Valley trek   is in June. Monsoon hits the Rupin & Supin Valley trek   slope after first week of July.

It is not possible to do the Rupin & Supin Valley trek   trek in July, August and early September when the monsoon is vigorous and active. The views are closed. Like Swargarohini, Khimloga, Black Peak Incessant rain makes the trail slippery and unstable.

Key Points about this trek:

  • Level: Moderate  (so first timers should avoid)
  • Proper conditioning & training of body required
  • Need proper gear & clothing for sub-zero temperatures
  • Shoes are the single most important equipment
  • High Altitude requires proper acclimatization
  • Post monsoon or pre-monsoon is the best time. During rains the region is prone to landslides
  • Phones don’t work
  • Beautiful landscape so carry good photo gear (I couldn’t carry my best equipment)
  • Travel light (my backpack was heavy at about 10 kg)
  • Keep an extra day in your itinerary for crossing the pass to account for bad weather

This money has to be paid to H.P.M.A office … (last moment arrangements are difficult and expensive).

Fitness:

An high altitude trek in the Himalayas requires considerable fitness. Your body needs to train itself to process more work with lower levels of oxygen. Therefore, on treks, cardiovascular training is critically important. You need to be able to jog a distance of 4.5 km in 30 mins before start of the trek. Unable to do so can make your trek difficult. In addition, preparation of trek needs to include strength and flexibility training. Trekkers who have not adequately prepared may be asked to discontinue the trek at any point.

H.P.M.A is not responsible for any loss/damage of any of your equipment on the trek.

Doctors: At H.P.M.A ,

Safety of a trek comes & respect to wildlife first. You will experience it first hand on the slope. Your team is accompanied by experienced trek leaders, safety gears, high end trek equipment, high altitude first aid kits and most importantly the right information. As an initiative in this regard we want to encourage doctor trekkers to function as team doctors..
