Phulara Ridge Trek – A phenomenal trek full of thrills

Panoramic views

 

Phulara Ridge the chain of mountains together is a totally unique trek not traversed by many, the ridge top offers panoramic views of high mountains standing tall and the best thing is you get mountain views throughout your trek. It lies in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district, this can be done in both winters and summers it has different charm in different seasons.

 

The beautiful forests, birds and animals

 

The trail is through dense forest, the greenery is always soothing and it is pleasure to walk under the shade of trees with beautiful view of high mountains. Here are a variety of birds which you can spot on the way, the colorful creatures are beautiful, and Langoors can be seen hanging on trees.

 

Camping in the middle of a meadow

 

Camping in the middle of a meadow is desire of many. In summers there is lush greenery and blooming flowers which makes this trek a colorful one, in winters the trail gets covered by snow and the panoramic views of snow covered peaks is a delight for trekkers.

 

The Base Camp of this trek is Sankri, a beautiful place and tourists’ attraction because it is base camp of more than 20 treks and then the trail takes you through picturesque places with stunning views. The walk is easy to Moderate and this is perfect for beginners.

Day 1- Dehradun to Sankri (210km) (7/8 Hours) (1950 Meters)

 

Day 2- Sankri to Sikolta (07 Km) (4/5 Hours) (2900 Meters)

 

Day 3-Sikolta to Bhoj Gadi camp (5 km) (2/3 hours) (3470 Meters)

 

Day 4- Bhoj Gadi Camp to Pushtara Thach via Phulara ridge (3700m) (5/6 hours)

 

Day 5- Pushtara thach to Taluka (8 Km) (5 Hours) then drive to Sankri

 

Day 6-Sankri to Dehradun (Drive to 210km) (7/8hrs)

 

 

Phulara Ridge Trek Details Itinerary

 

 

Day 1- Dehradun to Sankri (210km) (7/8 Hours) (1950 Meters)

 

Meet us at Dehradun Railway station or at ISBT and then drive towards Sankri you can have your breakfast at Kempty Fall which is a famous picnic spot and is famous for a waterfall. Have your lunch in middle of your journey at Purola.

 

It’s a picturesque drive to Sankri, you will get fetching views from your window, and the drive will be through Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainbagh, Damta, Newman, Purola, Mori, Netwar these are beautiful places in the Himalayas.

 

Sankri lies in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district, it is a village with a mini market famous for wooden huts which serve delectable food. You will see apple orchards here and greenery all around.

 

Reach Sankri have a glace of snow covered mountains, this place is pollution free, enjoy the invigorating climate. We own a hotel there named “Swargarohini” Relax, have your meal and overnight stay there.

 

Day 2- Sankri to Sikolta (07 Km) (4/5 Hours) (2900 Meters)

 

The trail takes you through the forest of pine; it is levelled and is an easy ascends. Walk under the shade of trees, you can spot colorful birds on the way and hear chirping sounds which makes the trek pleasant. Continue walking and when the forest ends you will see “Jainol Thatch”.

 

Go further and Dhunda peak will be visible from there you can also spot glimpse of Phulara Ridge from that point. Now, you can take any of the two trails one goes through Jud aka Talab and another goes through dense forest. You will across streams on the way where you can fill your water bottles and you can also hear the voice of flowing river on the way.

 

When you go ahead you get alluring views of snow-capped mountains and a ridge on your right would be visible. The mountains look beautiful when the sun shines on them and captures complete attention of the visitors. Ascend for another 50 minutes and you reach a meadow “Sikolta” this is your campsite for today, there are broken huts and water source is a stream. Enjoy your dinner and overnight stay in tents.

 

Day 3- Sikolta to Bhoj Gadi camp (5 km) (2/3 hours) (3470 Meters)

 

Have your breakfast at Sikolta campsite and leave for Bhoj Gadi, starting of a trek is through forest area, ascend is of not more than 30 minutes, the thick dense forest accompanies you. There is a bridge over a stream which separates the valley, further you will reach “Karsu Thatch” which is a forest clearing and you can see flowers blooming there adding beauty to nature.

 

Now, when you reach Karsu Thatch from here you can see the tree line starts receding and you get the fetching sight of Kedarkantha Peak. Continue ascending and after this forest clearing you will enter the meadows, it is delight to walk on the green grass, after your ascends walking here would be relaxing for your legs.

 

After half an hour of trek you will reach your campsite “Bhoj Gadi” which is a flat meadow and from where Kedarkantha top, Swargarohini, Devkyara, Vijay top and many more mountain peaks can be seen. You can go to Kedarkantha if you want it’s a long ridge walk. Have look at every mountain visible there, cherish the moments. dinner and overnight stay in tents.

 

Day 4- Bhoj Gadi Camp to Pushtara Thach via Phulara ridge (3700 m) (5/6 hours)

 

Phulara Ridge is visible from Bhoj Gadi campsite, start your trek and you can reach on the top in 45 minutes. Ascend and reach there, on the way you will see a variety of birds but the most beautiful you can spot is Himalayan Monal which is colorful, the state bird of Uttarakhand.

 

The views from the top are majestic and mesmerizing, the mountains looks so beautiful that you would not take your eyes off them. You can get the best sights of Bandarpooch, Rangnala, Swargarohini, Kala Nag, Devkyara, Hanuman top, Sarutal top, Vijay Top and Kedarkantha they all glisten in front of your eyes.

 

The trails ends after some ascend take right from there, now the trail is the mixture of ascends and descends. Now, to reach Pushtara Thach, you have to cross the Sarutal base when you cross this area you will reach other side of the hill after a short descend you will reach Pushtara Thach.

 

The Pushtara meadows are vast they look stammeringly beautiful, wildflowers grow there and this is a place with good surroundings which makes this place good for setting up our camps. Here is enough water as there are streams nearby, if you go further and cross the valley you can see a beautiful lake formed by melting of glaciers.

 

Day 5- Pushtara thach to Taluka (8 Km) (5 Hours) then drive to Sankri

 

From Pushtara Thach to Taluka is an easy descends, walk carefully and don’t get your ankle twisted while descending. Trek down through the meadows and you will see the increasing tree line, yellow flowers surrounds the area making it beautiful.

 

After half an hour of trek you will enter a dense forest, the trail is confusing here so follow your guide and spot langoor families there hanging on trees. Then you will see a village on the way, keep following this trail when you go further you will see cows goats and sheeps now you are about to reach Talukaa and after trekking for about half an hour you will reach there.

 

Taluka is a village with some shops now we will leave for Sankri by a vehicle it will take 2 hours to reach there. When you reach there go to Swargarohini hotel freshen up, relax and then in the evening you can explore the mini market of Sankri and know about the life of villagers as this is your last day of trek enjoy this to fullest watch sunset from there.

 

Day 6- Sankri to Dehradun (Drive to 210km) (7/8hrs)

 

Have breakfast and leave early in the morning so you can reach Dehradun on time. You can have your lunch on the way.

Mandatory Documents

Please carry the below documents.

  1. Original and photocopy of government photo identity card- ( Adhar Card, driving license, voters ID, etc.)
  2. Medical Certificate (first part to be filled by a doctor and second part by the trekker)
  3. Risk Certificates

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
  20. Packet Knife : Optional

It is wise to make your booking at least two months in advance. In the event of cancellation of trek/adventure activity services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reasons we must be notified of the same in writing.
