Welcome to Team – Har ki dun Protection & Mountaineering Association – Har-ki-dun valley Trek In Uttarakhand (India) – The best Summer and winter trek in the Himalayas Uttarkashi District (Uttarakhand)

When it comes to trekking in our local mountain Garhwal . Sankri in uttarakhand (India)  Kedarkantha  trek      Trek is a classic Summer and winter trek. The trek provides a great opportunity for  all trekkers to see the scenic beauty and experience with us  the life of remote villages , Saur, Sankri, . Garhwal Himalayas. From there on.

Kedarkantha  Trek lies in the Govind Wild life Sanctuary and National Park in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. .

The drive to Sankri (From where the Har ki dun . trek starts) is one of the most picturesque drives in the Himalayas through Dehradun , Mussoorie, Nainbag , Damta , Nawgano , Purola, Mori, Netwar, Sankri Taluka  along the Tons River Osla .har-ki-dun , Manida lake , trek is one the easiest treks in the .

This is the only valley from where one can see Swargarohini – I, II, III, (6300, Meters ) Bandarpoonch (6300 Meters )  and Blackpeak (6387, Meters ) , all together. One can also see the Ruinsara lake, , Rupin Valley , Bali Pass trek, Khimloga Peak , Baraadsar ,Lake  peaks from here

Har-ki-dun Trek Details Trek, Itinerary

 

Day 1: Pick up to You Dehradun to Sankri Drive (210km)(8/9 Hrs) (1920 Meters ) over night stay in hotel

Reached Dehradun  Through the Yamuna and Tons valleys across the Yamuna bridge, Nainbagh, Nowgaon, Purola  (Jarmola is one of the biggest and most beautiful pine forests in Asia), Mori and Netwar. Trek to a tiny & beautiful market in Sankri, a few wooden huts a beautiful hotel serve simple yet delicious food. Dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel Swargarohini !

 

Day 2 : After Breakfast Sankri to Taluka By taxi (11km) Same Day trek to Cheludgad  (13 km) (2700 , Meters ),(4/5 Hrs) .Over night stay in tents

After have breakfast start trek beautiful forest on the way There is a four-wheel-drive road that connects Sankri with Taluka. You can hire a jeep (locally) for this, subject to the condition of the road. This is a landslide prone-route, and is often closed during the monsoons. The trail to Taluka is almost level, going through 10-11 mountain bends. On the way, there are three big streams, almost submerging sections of the road in water

and look like animals thrive in this region. One can spot langoor families near Cheludgad  camp. Black bears, wild boars and Barasingha are few of the other animals you can spot if you’re lucky. Golden eagles and massive Himalayan griffins also live here & many birds , . The colourful Himalayan monal, the state bird of Uttarakhand, thrives in the forests here.

The hike is scenic, going past a series of wild roses and irises; bamboo, chestnut and cedar (deodar) trees. Just 2 km before Taluka, there is a campsite beside a stream. You can camp here if there isn’t enough time to go to Cheludgad camp around ,if you’re hiking from Sankri. Taluka is a small village with concrete houses. This is actually in contrast with the architecture in neighbouring villages like Sankri, Osla and Gangad, which are close to 300 years old. Reached at camp overnight stay intents

 

Day 3: After Breakfast Cheludgad To Seematra By trek (07km) (4/5 hrs) (3400mt) over night stay in tents

When we are start trek with packed lunch, to Cheludgad camp  2559 Maters ). You could either opt for the steep climb of Osla village, which is a path with beautiful views, or just trek along the .. Both the routes meet at . This is also one of the few treks where one can come across the local lifestyle in close proximity. The villages on the trail are ancient and seem like from a different civilization.

Most of the residents here grow, Potato, Ramdana,  rajma, Koda,  and Red rice for living. They also weave their own wool and make jackets local name is (Sadri, Fajji, Sutone ,  and coats, Folklore: Villagers here believe that their ancestors were Pandavas ane Kauravas. In the temple of Osla, which lies on the trail, there is a Duryodhan Temple, Shive temple  which some villagers also refer to as the name  Someshwar madadev  Temple. Start the day’s trek by heading to Osla village, which involves crossing the bridge and walking alongside the river till you reach Osla. Osla is a small village that is famous for a Duryodhana Temple. Some people say it is the temple of Someshwar Devta (an avatar of Lord Shiva). The architecture of this temple is a wonder in itself.

 

Day 4 :-  After breakfast from Seematra to Har ki dun By Trek (7km) (3/4hrs) (3645 Meters ) over night stay in tents

Morning after breakfast – On Har-Ki-Dun (3645, Meters ) mountains, with packed lunch, to Har-ki-Dun on a gradual ascent that offers excellent views of the snow-covered mountains and vast  valleys with huge waterfalls. On the  way The area is home to a number of rare species of Himalayan birds and flowers, and is full of birch and spruce. After the last steep climb of approximately 300 Meters , you have the grassy field bugyal of Har-ki-Dun divided by the clear and calm stream. The beautiful Swargarohini stands tall overlooking this Valley of God of shiva . enjoying your beautiful life , here  Dinner and overnight stay in tent.

 

Day 5 :-  After breakfast –exploring the Har-ki-dun valley  campsite Distance: 3km / 9km Time taken: 4 hours / 6 hours (Manida lake ) (Jamdar Glacier)

After breakfast take the decisions with our guide – Eads to the Jamdar glacier (4000 Meters ). Trek back to Har-ki-Dun  valley camp site

When . valley will make you never want to leave the place. So, a rest day at the campsite is highly recommended. At Har-ki-dun, one can see the vast grounds below Swaragrohini-1 peak. The meadows here are full of alpine flowers. You can explore the entire ground in about an hour or two.

Explore Maninda Taal from Har-ki-dun campsite (3 km, 3-4 hours) To reach Maninda Taal, turn left from the campsite. Trek north towards Hata Peak, which goes across a beautiful alpine flower meadow. From here, the route curves left as you reach a glacial lake. This is Maninda Taal. You will see the rare Brahma Kamal in abundance here. This is a rare cactus that blooms only at night. The logical route to  Borasu pass Sangla valley (Chitkul, Himachal) via Borasu Pass is also visible from this vantage point

 

Day 6 :-  After breakfast from Har ki dun to Cheludgad By Trek Visit to OSLA Village (14km) (5/6hrs) over night stay in tents

After breakfast with packed lunch trek to down beautiful views, on way  see black peak , bali pass valley and route of bali pass or just trek along the . Both the routes meet at . This is also one of the few treks where one can come across the local lifestyle in close proximity   Cheludgad.Osla is a small village that is famous for a Duryodhana Temple. Some people say it is the temple of Someshwar Devta (an avatar of Lord Shiva). Reached camp –

 

Day 7 : After breakfast from Cheludgad to Taluka By trek (13, KM) (2400 Meters ), Same day Drive  to sankri by taxi (11km) (1, hrs) over night stay hotel

Aftre breakfast from Har Ki Dun – Start trekking early as you have a long distance above (13. Km)  to cover today. Head back towards Seematra  and then to Osla. Village Rest at Osla see beautiful wooden temple ,  for a bit and move on to Cheludgad camp site .over night stay in tents – here our personal camp site (HPMA)

 

Day 8 : After breakfast Drive from Sankri to Dehradun by taxi Travel (210km) (7/8hrs) take the overnight train to Delhi

The trail through alpine meadows, moraine ridges, glacier basins, pine forests and ancient villages, gives you spectacular valley views and a chance to experience the wonderful slow-paced local lifestyle.

Getting to the base camp HPMA – office and Hotel

Take an overnight train to Dehradun from Delhi. New Delhi-Dehradun A/C special train from New Delhi station is the best option. The train reaches Dehradun at 5.40 am. If you Meet to our office member and drive to Sankri base camp office Har-ki-dun  Road Sankri .

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport is the airport serving Dehradun, located about 25 km from the city. There is a daily flight from Delhi to Dehradun

By Bus

There is regular bus service from Delhi to Dehradun, from Delhi, ISBT Kashmere Gate.

We would suggest you to take only government buses from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Private buses ply from outside ISBT and they are not trust worthiness.

Usually buses drop you at Dehradun ISBT. From there you have to come to Dehradun Railway Station meet us railway stion 6:30 Am.

  2. Medical Certificate (first part to be filled by a doctor and second part by the trekker)

Participants must bring:
Sturdy hiking boots:

preferably all leather upper as it provides better ankle support. If you do not own a pair yet, it is advisable that you buy one as soon as possible & wear it often so that they are well broken. This will help prevent blisters.

  1. Light weight tennis shoes/sandals: for wearing in camp.
  2. Wool socks: 2 pairs: preferably thick wool socks.
  3. Nylon socks: 2-3 Pairs, of the type you wear daily to be worm under the wool socks to prevent blister.
  4. Hiking shirt: 1 Preferably long sleeve
  5. Long John top: 1 also known as thermal underwear, preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  6. Warm shirts & pants for camp: 1 each
  7. Rain cot 1 each
  8. Warm Jacket: 1
  9. Wool gloves: 1 pairs as thick as available in the market.
  10. Long John bottoms: Preferably wool to be worm as first layer.
  11. Under wear: 2-3 changes
  12. Hiking shorts / pants: 1
  13. Sun hat: Cotton or nylon.
  14. Sun Glasses:Preferably with an anchor
  15. Sun Protection Lotion: optional
  16. Lip balm/chap stick: optional
  17. Water bottle: 2 Bottles of 1 Liter capacity (Pepsi bottles work well) please insure that they do not leak.
  18. Head lamp / flashlight:  Preferably a headlamp as it leaves your hands free to work please bring extra batteries.
  19. Toilet articles: Tooth brush, Tooth Paste  etc
  20. Packet Knife : Optional

It is wise to make your booking at least two months in advance. In the event of cancellation of trek/adventure activity services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reasons we must be notified of the same in writing. Cancellation charges will be effective from the date we receive advice in writing, andcancellation charges would be as follows.

Up to 24 Days: 95% of Trek/adventure program cost will be refund.

Between 14-24 Day: 70% of Trek/adventure program cost will be refund.

Between 14-10 Days: 50% of Trek/adventure program cost will be refunded.

Less than 10 Days:No refund

Backpack carrying:   

H.P.M.A expects all trekkers to carry their own backpacks. If for some reason a trekker is unable to carry his or her backpack, he/she can offload the backpack to the H.P.M.A office by paying a charge of Rs 300 per backpack per day. . This money has to be paid to H.P.M.A office … (last moment arrangements are difficult and expensive).

Fitness:   

An high altitude trek in the Himalayas requires considerable fitness. Your body needs to train itself to process more work with lower levels of oxygen. Therefore, on treks, cardiovascular training is critically important. You need to be able to jog a distance of 4.5 km in 30 mins before start of the trek. Unable to do so can make your trek difficult. In addition, preparation of trek needs to include strength and flexibility training. Trekkers who have not adequately prepared may be asked to discontinue the trek at any point.
